Cape Town Travel and Tourism is an independent online travel guide to Cape Town and the surrounding Winelands. This policy explains what personal information we collect through this website, why we collect it, and what you can ask us to do with it.
We are based in Cape Town, South Africa and work online only. You can reach us by email at info@capetowntravelandtourism.co.za, or by WhatsApp message on +27 82 393 2888. That number is for WhatsApp messages only, so please do not call or send an SMS to it. We answer messages Monday to Friday between 9am and 5pm (SAST).
Information you give us
The only form on this site is our contact form. When you use it we receive the name you enter, your email address, your message, and a record that you ticked the consent box. We use that information for one purpose: to answer you. We do not add you to a mailing list and we do not pass your details to any other business unless you specifically ask us to introduce you to one.
Enquiries reach us as email and stay in our inbox and on this website’s hosting account. We keep them only for as long as they are useful for answering you or for following up a conversation you started, and we delete them on request.
Comments on blog posts
If you leave a comment on an article, WordPress stores the name and email address you enter, your comment, and technical details such as your IP address and browser type, which help us identify spam. Comments are moderated before they appear. An anonymised version of your email address may be sent to the Gravatar service so that a profile picture can be shown next to your comment, and Gravatar has its own privacy policy.
Cookies and caching
At the moment we do not use cookies to collect data about you or to advertise to you, and we do not run analytics or tracking pixels such as Google Analytics or the Meta pixel on this site. This may change in future without prior notice, so please check this page from time to time to see where things stand.
WordPress sets cookies in two situations: if you leave a comment it may remember your name and email so you do not have to retype them, and if you log in to the site as an administrator. Our hosting provider also uses page caching to make the site load faster, which does not identify you personally.
Links to other websites and affiliate links
We recommend tourism businesses such as restaurants, guesthouses, tour operators and wine estates, and we link out to them. Some of those links may be affiliate links or paid placements, which means we may earn a commission or fee if you book or buy after clicking, at no extra cost to you. This never changes what we recommend.
Once you follow a link away from this site you are on someone else’s website, and their privacy policy applies, not ours. We have no control over what they collect. The same is true of our Facebook page, where anything you post or send is also handled under Meta’s own terms and privacy policy.
Who we share information with
We do not sell, rent or trade your personal information. It is handled by the service providers we need in order to run the site and reply to you, namely our web host and our email provider, and only for that purpose. We may also disclose information if the law requires it.
Our website and email are hosted on servers that may be located outside South Africa, so information you send us may be stored or processed in another country.
Your rights
Under South Africa’s Protection of Personal Information Act, and under similar rules if you are writing to us from elsewhere, you can ask us to:
- tell you what personal information of yours we hold
- correct anything that is wrong or out of date
- delete your enquiry or comment
- stop using your information, or withdraw the consent you gave us
Email info@capetowntravelandtourism.co.za and we will deal with your request as quickly as we reasonably can. There is no charge for asking. If you are not satisfied with how we have handled your information, you may complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa.
Children
This website is written for adults planning travel and is not aimed at children. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has sent us their details, please contact us and we will delete them.
Security
We take reasonable steps to keep your information safe, including serving this site over a secure connection and limiting who can access the website. No method of sending information over the internet is completely secure, so please do not send us sensitive personal details, identity numbers or payment information by email or through the contact form. We will never ask you for them.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle personal information, or if we add anything to the site that collects it, we will update this page and change the date at the top.
